FREE RIDER

Της Τζούλιας Σπυροπούλου σε σκηνοθεσία Διονύση Ταραζή από τον Θεατρικό Όμιλο ΕΚΤΟΣ ΠΡΟΒΟΛΕΑ, χρονική περίοδος  Ιανουάριος 2011-Μάρτιος 2011.

Το έργο FREE RIDER διαδραματίζεται στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του 1950 σε ένα σπίτι μέσης τάξης στο Σαν Φρανσίσκο. O ετεροθαλής αδελφός του Λάρυ Άρμστρονγκ, Τζακ, επιστρέφει στο πατρικό του σπίτι με αφορμή την ασθένεια του πατέρα του για να διεκδικήσει την εκτίμηση, τον σεβασμό αλλά και την χαμένη πατρότητα.  Το απολωλό πρόβατο του έργου μας εμφανίζεται έχοντας κάνει ένα μακρύ ταξίδι ,  αποκομίζοντας αξίες, όπως ελευθερία και η δύναμη του να ζεις το σήμερα. Παρ ’όλα αυτά, ο Τζακ έχει ένα βαρύ, σκοτεινό παρελθόν αλλά και μια φαινομενική ανωριμότητα που δημιουργεί ανασφάλειες στον αδελφό του Λάρυ ως προς τις προθέσεις της επιστροφής του. Τα δύο αδέλφια αναπόφευκτα συγκρούονται την ίδια στιγμή που ο πατέρας τους ψυχορραγεί, γεγονός που προκαλεί ζυμώσεις στη σχέση τους. Ένας ακόμη παράγοντας θα είναι καθοριστικός για την πορεία του έργου, μια γυναίκα, η Σάρλοτ, μέλλουσα σύζυγος του Λάρυ.

Το έργο είναι βαθύτατα ανθρώπινο. Διαπραγματευόμαστε θεμελιακές αξίες της κοινωνίας μας όπως ο θεσμός της οικογένειας αλλά και της πατρότητας. Σε μια εποχή όπου οι αξίες καταρρίπτονται το FREE RIDER εξερευνά τα όρια μιας οικογένειας και την προσπάθεια των μελών της να αποκτήσουν ξανά λειτουργικές σχέσεις, διαγράφοντας το παρελθόν.

Ο θεατρικός Όμιλος  ΕΚΤΟΣ ΠΡΟΒΟΛΕΑ δημιουργήθηκε από δύο νέους αλλά έμπειρους επαγγελματίες με πάθος, και φιλοδοξίες που ενώ μέχρι τώρα δραστηριοποιούνταν ατομικά στο χώρο του θεάματος αποφάσισαν να ενώσουν τις δυνάμεις τους.

Είναι ωραίο να ονειρεύεσαι αλλά προϋποθέτει πίστη και θέληση για να πραγματοποιηθεί. Εμείς θέλουμε να αλλάξουμε τον μικρόκοσμό μας και πιστεύουμε ότι με την συμπαράστασή σας στην προσπάθεια μας θα κάνουμε τους θεατές να αναρωτηθούν, να σκεφτούν και να ταξιδέψουν.

‘Άλλωστε το πρώτο βήμα είναι το δυσκολότερο. Μετά βοηθάει και η βαρύτητα να συνεχίσεις.

We cherish our good friends

hi everyone,
i'm sorry to be out of touch these days. One of the best friends, Bill Davis, died Sunday morning from Leukemia.

He was very dear to me and my family. He had a good heart, helped us, gave us tough advise, and was always there for us though far away.
He and his wife, Dell Hamsen, have always supported me in all my efforts, and this is why i'd like to dedicate this show to his memory.

Searching beyond

For a few weeks now i've been working on a playwriting workshop, and i've been stuck.
There are moments in a man's life that cannot express with words and it is the actor that brings them to life. There is nothing more important than feeling what you're saying, no matter what you're saying. And you have to search deep in your heart to find what was asleep for so long. And you know, i don't think being a brilliant playwright means always finding the right word but finding the character's deep thought and feeling in their most challenging point in their life.

low budget productions

Hi guys. I want to keep my promise about trying to write every day. Remember what we said about New Years Resolutions? Well, this day is everyday.
Some times it's just hard to do everything, i'm only one person, and we live in a society that expects everything from us. We have to be perfect. We have to have so many roles, perfect employees, perfect partners, perfect lovers, perfect wives, perfect mothers-grandmothers..., perfect everything. So far only art in itself is perfect, i'm hardly in anything. So, having said this i have to be perfect in three jobs that i have assigned myself due to this low budget production, which by the way i decided to put up.
I have to be a perfect director's assistant, perfect producer, and act...hah...and off course i can do it. We women think we can do everything all at once, but by the time you finish everything, time has passed and you realize how you've assigned yourself all this shit, while some other people have been sipping coffee and watching football games...hm...that's something to think about. Having said all this, i have to go back to being a not so perfect playwright and finish the corrections on my play so i can send it to my professor....

breakthrough rehearsal

I'll try to put in out in Greek, but it's easier for me to express myself in English. 

I promised myself i'd write something everyday. You, know, we don't have to wait for New Year's

Resolution to change our lives. We can do it today. One tiny step at a time.

As i'm rehearsing for this project, i sometimes leave my body and see myself through a third eye.

I realize i make a small step everyday. I think today i made a bigger step. You know it's one of those days

where you're so close to the treat you can almost grab it, but you're still far from it? Well, that was me today.

Most of us spend years of acting school, tutoring, dancing singing, hell, some people spend their whole lives studying. Some people go to NYU or National Theater of Greece (Greek version of NYU, supposedly), 

but it doesn't matter if you don't give yourself on that stage. It's less than a second away, yet so far, and no one can teach you that.

No one can teach you to fight for something you want. Everybody has 'wants' and dreams. And you know, the more people i meet in this business, the more i see how they don't pursue what they want. Well, they say they want this and that, hey, they have a whole list they can tell you if you ask them. But the truth is that, when you get to know them a little, you see that in action they're not doing anything to achieve it.  I'd be a liar if i didn't say i was one of them. Till i made a decision to produce my play with my partner. And even then, even though i'm always putting effort, i still didn't know what i was getting into.

Some of us are so privileged to have a minutes a day on that stage, but when we have the chance what do we do? Just like our director says, theater wasn't created to show ourselves but to cleanse ourselves. We need to remember this. Just remember you have been blessed with a few minutes a day to cleanse yourself on stage. Don't throw that away (i'm writing this so i can tell myself too)

English Translation

Free Rider is a play set in the state of California in 1959. It takes place in a middle-class home, where its members are concerned with the religion and politics of their own family. In this family, the two brothers’ relationship will be tested once again. The play begins with Jack arriving to the house and by doing this, he upsets the world of his brother, Larry. Larry’s past with his brother gives him doubts about the reason of his brother’s return. Jack will in fact upset Larry’s present and future. He has come to take his place in the family, but also to visit his ill father. Larry is suspicious of Jack’s return; he believes that Jack is back to get revenge on Larry for something that happened in the past. The play moves to its peak when Larry loses what he has most precious to his brother. However, Jack’s immaturity will bring the family to its division again and the play to its end.
